Do I Need a Skip Permit in Uckfield?

You only need a permit if the skip is going on the public highway, which includes the road, pavement or a grass verge. If it's going on your driveway, front garden or other private land, no permit is needed.

In Uckfield, road permits are issued by East Sussex Highways on behalf of East Sussex County Council, not by Wealden District Council or the Town Council. Only the skip company can apply, so we handle the whole thing for you. We will need notice to get the permit in place before delivery.

A few things are worth knowing if your skip is going on the road:

• Skips generally can't go on yellow lines, and the main routes through town like the High Street and the A22 have extra restrictions.
• A road skip must be lit at night and have its owner's details on it. We provide the lights and markings.
• The permit covers a fixed period. If you need the skip for longer, tell us early so we can extend it.

If there's no room on your property or street, our man with a van service could suit you better. We load and take everything away in one visit, with no permit needed.

What Can Go in a Skip

Most household and building waste can go straight in, including rubble, wood, metal, garden waste, old furniture, plasterboard (bagged separately), and general rubbish from clear-outs.

Some items need special handling, so they carry an extra charge. Please tell us when you book if you have any of these:

• Mattresses and upholstered furniture such as sofas and armchairs
• Fridges and freezers
• TVs and computer monitors
• Tyres, including tractor tyres
• Tree trunks and large roots
• Gas bottles
• Fluorescent tubes and light bulbs

We can't accept these in a skip at all:

• Asbestos, or anything that might be asbestos. Call us first and we'll advise on safe removal.
• Liquids of any kind, including paint, oil and chemicals
• Clinical or medical waste
